Three Generations Of Webbs
Grandpa George Webb started in 1922 subleasing 40 acres from Stanford University to be closer to San Francisco produce market. The Webbs started in Watsonville in 1917 with strawberries, then Grandpa George moved the family up here to the farm in 1929 and leased the full 285 acres at that time. Stanley Webb, the youngest of 4 brothers, took over the farm in 1950. My father continued the tradition of just growing strawberries until 1961 when he started the first produce stand at the local bus stop on Alpine Road. That move started the diversity of growing multiple crops corn, tomatoes, string beans, squash ect.
Gary Webb (third generation) took over the farm in 1980. The major change in the 80's was when I switched the 90 acres of farming from flood irragating to a drip irragation (saving 75% water) this was a three year process. In the 90's, Webb Ranch formed a union (with health and dental) to provide the best working conditions for the farm workers. Some farm workers have been with the Webb's for over 25 years. In the 2000's I started a U-PICK berry operation which is now in it's fourth year of operation, run by the fourth generation (Laura and Eric) and Carrie, my wife of 24 years, is the organizer, secretary, booking agent, hostess, and is the caboose on our hay rides (during October Halloween festival) and I am the engeineer.
Our motto here at webb ranch is: The customer is always right..
Thank You
Farmer Gary
